Ben

I tend to like books that really stretch my imagination and worldview – not so much by fantasy or world building, more so by getting into the heads of characters. I read non-fiction and fiction of all styles, but prefer them to be honest and easily digestible. My favorite non-fiction topics are philosophy, psychology, history, science, and music memoirs. For fiction, I read all over the place but often gravitate to speculative fiction, literary fiction, thrillers, and some types of horror.

Sarah

My name is Sarah, and when I'm not at the library, I'm probably doing crafts while binge watching a TV series. I enjoy gardening and spending time in the water in the summer. I like audiobooks and short stories, but my favorite books come from the science fiction and romance shelves. I especially love Lois McMaster Bujold, Jasmine Guillory, Courtney Milan, Mary Robinette Kowal, John Scalzi, Seanan McGuire, and Ursula K. Le Guin. I also enjoy comics, manga, and graphic novels.

Angie

Hi! I am Angie and a big fan of dystopian/post-apocalyptic fiction, science fiction, fantasy, Young Adult fantasy, romance and cozy mysteries. I run the Geek Out! Book Club and the Mystery & Mayhem Book Club at Carnegie-Stout, which are a whole lot of fun! Join us! I am also the Great Reading Challenge maven. (Ask me about the GRC!) Harry, Ron and Hermione are my ultimate favorite imaginary friends - I visit them often in re-reads.

When I am not at the library, I enjoy reading (surprise!), writing, binge-watching TV shows, making jewelry, walking in the fresh air and spending time with family.

Favorite authors these days: Seanan McGuire, Brandon Sanderson, Rick Riordan, Pierce Brown, Sarah J. Maas, Naomi Novik, Erika Johansen, Becky Chambers, Martha Wells, N.K. Jemisin, Lorraine Heath and Eloisa James. Favorite TV shows of late: Grace and Frankie, The Umbrella Academy, The Office and Psych.

Hello, Mike here!

I am currently reading Killing Commendatore by Haruki Murakami, and next up is Melmoth by Sarah Perry.

I also recently enjoyed the graphic novel Sabrina by Nick Drnaso and the Berlin trilogy by Jason Lutes.

Becky

Hello! I’m Becky and the newest addition to the Adult Services team. I am a huge Harry Potter lover whose fandom is only rivaled by Angie, I love mystery and suspense novels, and enjoy anything written by the Brontë sisters. I also appreciate any novel with a sense of humor.

When I am not working at the library helping you find your next great book I am at home spending time with my dogs and my family, riding my bike on the River Walk, or sitting outside by the fire (assuming the Iowa weather is cooperating) with a book in my hand.
