Carnegie-Stout Public Library (C-SPL) has been serving the Dubuque community since 1902. Its collection of more than 240,000 items is comprised of print, audio/video materials, and various online resources including ebooks, digital magazines, streaming movies, research databases, and more. C-SPL offers an inventory of non-traditional items for check out as well, from hot spots and GoPro cameras to baking pans, board games, and ukuleles.
 
C-SPL also hosts after hours First Fridays events featuring the works of local artists at Art @ your library® alternating with original music by local and regional musicians in Music @ your library®.

Meetings
Library board meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of each month (except for November and December) at 4 p.m. in the Lacy Board Room, located on the third floor of the library. Please contact Library Administration at 563-589-4225, ext. 4313 if you wish to be added to the Board agenda.

Friends of the Library

The Friends of the Carnegie-Stout Public Library is a nonprofit, independent organization established in 1978 to help support the library in serving the Dubuque community. The Friends desire is to promote the growth and welfare of the library, enrich its resources, and make its services better known.

The Friends typically host two book sale events each year. These sales feature thousands of items including fiction, history, biography, children’s books, graphic novels, and DVDs. They also offer a daily book sale section located in the historic wing on the second floor of the library.

Book Donations

The Friends will accept book donations that meet the following guidelines:

  • No general fiction, or romance genre books older than five years
  • In good condition (no writing, tape, yellowing, mold, or odor)
  • No text books
  • No encyclopedias
  • No magazines

Books donated are reviewed and will either be added to the library collection or included in one of the bi-annual book sales. Donations to the Friends of the Carnegie-Stout Public Library are tax-deductible.

Our Mission Carnegie-Stout Public Library Foundation The Carnegie-Stout Public Library Foundation supports and enriches the library through private fundraising and advocates for the library as our community's greatest resource for individual enjoyment, enlightenment, and knowledge. Our Vision The Foundation envisions the Carnegie-Stout Public Library as the heart of the Dubuque community and a gateway for expanding horizons through leading-edge access to information, entertainment, learning, and innovation for all. Our History The Carnegie-Stout Public Library Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization established in 1996 to promote reading and life-long learning. The Foundation is an all-volunteer organization with a Board of Directors committed to the belief that great communities deserve great libraries. C-SPL Funded Projects, 2002-2020 Our Commitment The Foundation Board of Directors raises funds through donations, grants, and bequests, which are distributed to the library for specific projects. The Board is guided by the principle that Foundation funds are intended to supplement, but not replace, public funding for the normal operating needs of the library. DONATE
